Do not be litterbug. And don't expect others to collect your garbage. Whatever waste you produce, after consuming eatables, keep it with you in garbage bag and bring back to the base and dispose off properly. The biodegradable waste such as fruit and vegetable waste can be buried in earth. Keep stream water clean and avoid using pollutants such as detergents in stream and springs- if no toilets facilities are available- make sure you are at least 30 meter away from water source and bury or cover waste.
In Himachal, it is mandatory to inform local officials about your tour plan so that they could know that you are in mountains, away from civilization and cut off from rest of the world. You, with the help of tour operator, should write an email mentioning name, number, contact details, address of the mountaineers along with trekking route and expected time to return to the base and send it to local deputy commissioner or sub-divisional magistrate or tourism department or police. This will help authorities to local and rescue the mountaineers in case of emergency.
Do not trust on internet too much for weather forecast. Weather on Himalayas changes in minutes. A crystal clear sky can turn black with clouds and can shower snow in few minutes. Be prepared. Discover Himalaya has faced many such incidents in recent past. So, you should in advance carry warm clothing, good tent and sleeping bags. Sudden snowfall and dense mist can put you in trouble. Many tourists have got deviated from their actual trail and gone missing forever. So, Discover Himalaya and Ministry of Tourism encourage hiring a professional and certified tourist guide.
